The Personality Assessment

About the RELATE™Assessment

Now available for couples therapists,  high schools, universities, churches, non-profit ministries, the U.S. military and other government agencies.

After years of counseling and personality research, author Charles Causey  developed this updated lens by which to experience personality. The level  of insight and detail into each personality after selecting answers to 48-Questions will aid individuals in a deeper understanding of human dynamics.

Author Background

Charles Causey (BA, BS, MDIV, MSS, DMIN), loves to research and write about how people interact in relationships. His book Candor: The Secret to Succeeding at Tough Conversations (Moody Publishers, 2021) is used as an effective resource to identify problems, assist business interactions, speed up meetings, and reach optimal decisions. In his follow-up book, RELATE: Unlocking the Power of Personality Type to Strengthen Your Relationships (Valley Forge, 2024), Charles plumbs into the psychology of personality types to identify a new lens by which to experience personality and relationships. Readers of RELATE will become familiar with the six personality types and proficient at identifying these types in people around them. Charles is a 34-year combat veteran and army chaplain. He is also the author of  eight books and loves interacting with people in order to help them achieve their relationship goals. Besides his current work in the military, Charles is a conference speaker and leadership coach where he introduces professionals to key concepts from his books including Unbreakable (a marriage book co-authored with Tony Miltenberger), Words & Deeds (NAV Press/Tyndale House), Candor, and  RELATE. He is married to his sweetheart Lauri and they have four children. Charles loves to run, hike, and play pickle ball. He is a Pikes Peak Marathon and JFK 50-Miler finisher and would love to someday run the Leadville 100.

FAQs

1. How do I learn more about my personality type?

Answer:  If after reviewing the information on your personality type from this website you would like more information, then you have two options; either purchase the RELATE book for $14.99 on Amazon.com or purchase a 12-page tutorial sheet on your specific type for $2.99 here on this website that explains your 22 Lead Character Traits, Strengths, Potential Blind Spots, your Superpowers, stress areas and Expert Tips on how to thrive. Go to the "Six Types" tab or "Personality Resources" tab to find out more and to order and download the pdf.

2. How do I find out who I am compatible with?
Answer:  Many people have asked if there are two of the six types that are more  compatible. It seems like there should be a simple answer to this  question but there is not. There are types that are more similar, such  as the Role Model and the Loyalist, or the Energizer and the Expressive;  however, they may or may not be more compatible. There is a lot that  goes into what makes up a person's personality such as family size and  birth order, gender, the type of home environment a person has  experienced... Each person is made up of experiences which forge them  into unique individuals. Past victories, past trauma, past trials, and time invested overcoming challenges all contribute toward the way each person thinks and acts. Chapter Nine is a key chapter in RELATE which explains how each of the types get along with each other, their  potential struggles, and triumphs, etc. So our recommendation is to read Chapter Nine after identifying your personality type to see what might  deliver to your satisfaction "the perfect relationship." Or, if you don't have the book and want a quicker solution, order the 35-page Assessment on this website explaining how the six types relate to each other. Go to the "Six Types" tab or "Personality Resources" tab to find out more and to order and download the pdf.

3. How do I change my partner?
Answer:  Change is hard, especially when desiring to change someone else. The  best advice we have is to try to get as much feedback on yourself as  possible first. How might you be contributing to the relationship stress  you're experiencing? That is what makes the RELATE assessment so  important, it gives you not only your strengths but your potential blind  spots as well. Could a few of these be a source of irritation for your  partner, which might be partially responsible for causing the divide?  Second, once you feel that you understand yourself better, then have  your partner take the personality assessment if they are open to it. Once both of you have your assessment, then you  can sit down and discuss with each other what might be the source of  your struggles. It truly takes two to work on the relationship. For a deeper look into how your two types can relate, even if you are the same type,  order the 35-page Assessment on this website explaining how the six types relate to each other. Go to the "Six Types" tab or "Personality Resources" tab to find out more and to order and download the pdf.

4. Why are there only six types?
Answer:  This is one of the features unique about the RELATE assessment tool.  Instead of up to 16 types with other assessment models, we found that  six personalities adequately address most of the population with the  specificity we were looking for in order to aid relationships. Obviously no personality model is perfect and there will always be people who are  somewhere in the middle. However, RELATE offers an easy to understand  and retain model where the letters RELATE stand for the six types: Role  Model, Energizer, Loyalist, Assertive, Trailblazer, and Expressive. This is so much better than telling others you are a number, or you are a set of letters. Being a Role Model or an Energizer means something! The words of each type are not empty labels, they are descriptors that get right to the heart of each personality type. What we call “personality” chiefly manifests itself into six distinct types in humanity, and people will easily find themselves within one of these types.

5. What is the difference between an Executive and an Explorer?

Answer:   Three of the personality types represent similar patterns in how they  participate in the world and in what is important to them. The Role  Models, Loyalists, and Assertives make up the family, or supergroup,  called Executives; this is because they respond similarly in how they use power, how they  handle difficulty, and how they process data. Similarly, the Energizers,  Trailblazers, and Expressives are described by the term Explorers because of how  they see the world and how they approach the unknown. These two  collections of personality types, the Executives and the Explorers,  comprise the RELATE ensemble, just as the National Football League is  comprised of the American Football Conference and the National Football  Conference. Executives love structure, are ruled by deadlines, and focus  on making decisions. Explorers love to understand new concepts, adapt easily to change and are more diplomatic with power, instead of seeing things as black and white.

6. Why are there two types of Loyalists?

Answer:   Within the Loyalist group, the majority of them (70-75 percent) fall into  the Executive category, but there is a sub-type minority (25-30 percent)  that falls into the Explorer category. This is the only personality type  which straddles both the Executive and Explorer families. Executive  Loyalists prefer to see issues as black and white and are quicker to make judgements than Explorer Loyalists. Explorer Loyalists, however, like to keep things as uncomplicated as possible, for as long as possible, even avoiding people or situations where they suspect they will have to have a serious  conversation about responsibilities and obligations. Executive Loyalists  are quick to fall in line and obey whatever their supervisor might  demand, if within reason. Explorer Loyalists, on the other hand, are  constantly on a quest for meaning and purpose and would like to have a  greater amount of freedom than simply being told specifically and repeatedly what to do.

7. Are there any RELATE training events in my area?
Answer:  There may be. This is a static website that is updated infrequently.  The best way to find out what is going on as far as training events, or if you would like to request the author or one of his creative consultants to speak to your group or train your leaders, please fill out a contact form (see button below)
